Petals is proud to be part of the First 1001 Days Movement, an alliance of over 130 charities and professional bodies campaigning to improve the babies’ emotional wellbeing and development.

The first 1001 days, from pregnancy until a child’s second birthday, are an age of opportunity. There is clear, compelling evidence that this is a significant and influential phase in development. What happens during this period influences every child’s future health, wellbeing, learning and earnings potential. It sets the groundwork for children’s developing emotional wellbeing, resilience and adaptability; the competencies they need to thrive. During this period, we can lay a foundation of health and wellbeing whose benefits last a lifetime – and carry into the next generation.

The First 1001 Days Movement brings together organisations spanning the children, family, mental health, maternity and baby sectors. While we have worked together before, we are now becoming a more formal alliance with a shared commitment to work together to accelerate change for babies and their families. Our new mission sets out our ambition to support and challenge national and local decision makers to value and invest in babies’ emotional wellbeing and development in the first 1001 days, from pregnancy, as the critical foundation for a healthy and fulfilling life.
