Battling “gruelling” conditions, Petals clients Victoria and Carl took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks last week, walking over 24 miles and climbing 5200ft in wind, rain and poor visibility to raise an incredible £1533 to help other couples navigating baby loss.
After suffering two ectopic pregnancies at the same time, Victoria found Petals – she explains how her counsellor, Lynette, helped her to “process the cluster of emotions without worrying about upsetting loved ones or being judged for thinking or feeling the ‘wrong’ thing.”
After a challenging journey, Victoria wanted to “give back to the charity that helped to start her healing journey”, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
Victoria’s story…
Eighteen months ago – I suffered a Spontaneous Bi-Lateral Ectopic Pregnancy. In short both of my fallopian tubes had ectopic pregnancies at the same time. During my week stay in hospital both tubes ruptured, not only did I lose the pregnancies but I lost the tubes and subsequently was told I was sterile.
The physical pain I experienced during that week was beyond anything I had felt before- thankfully I was given morphine to numb that.
When it came to processing the emotional pain and grief of losing our chance to be parents, on top of the trauma of two emergency operations – morphine couldn’t help.
Thankfully West Suffolk Hospital sent me away with a Petals information pack. In time, I contacted them and was offered a block of counselling sessions. .
With Lynette I was able to process the cluster of emotions without worrying about upsetting loved ones or being judged for thinking for feeling the “wrong” thing.
She helped me to be kinder to myself, by helping me realise my feelings were natural. It was a safe space for me to process the sadness, injustice and fear for the future.
I am so grateful for this service and their support. As Carl and I look to new adventures we thought it would be nice to try and give back to the charity that helped to start my healing journey.
