Support for Dads

At Petals, we understand that baby loss impacts every relationship differently. Everyone’s journey through grief is individual and your emotions can be different from your partner’s. From our experience, a dad’s natural instinct can often be to protect their partner, try to fix their partner’s grief, or hide their emotions from them.

We think it’s important that as dads, you know that you’re not alone – baby loss affects fathers too – and if you’re struggling or needing support, it’s okay to ask for help. Our expert counsellors are here to support you – together or separately.

“What have you got to lose?”

Senior Counsellor, Russ, explains how Petals counselling can help both members of a couple following a loss:

“It’s so important to connect with others and speak to people you trust. I encourage you to ‘manage’ your emotions less and ‘experience’ them more.”

Dr Russ Hargreaves

Senior Petals Counsellor

“Often, Dads can try and hide their sadness from their partners. But actually, I would encourage you to say, “Can I just sit here in this with you?

A message from Petals Dad, Andy.

For any man going through baby loss and unsure about counselling, I’d say this: it’s not about being weak—it’s about being open to support, for yourself and for the people you love. You don’t have to go every week or have all the answers. Just knowing it’s there can make a difference.” – Niall, Petals Client
