Trusts and foundations
Every day, 297 babies are lost in pregnancy or shortly after birth. Most of these parents are left to navigate their grief and trauma without any dedicated mental health support. The Petals Counselling Programme is proven to improve mental health and to help parents find a way to cope.
We believe all parents should have access to specialist counselling following baby loss – no matter where they live, the type of loss they have experienced or the barriers they face in being able to access our services.
You can help us reach more people, giving them an opportunity to process their grief and overcome their trauma, by donating to Petals through your trust or foundation.
Work in partnership with Petals
As well as backing our core running costs so we can support more people with our specialist counselling, we can work in partnership on a particular area of our service if that best suits the values and visions of your organisation.
Â
For example, your trust could fund the language line, which unlocks Petals counselling for parents who do not speak English as their first language – directly addressing structural and cultural barriers that make specialist mental health support inaccessible. Or you could support parents facing the heartbreaking choice of undergoing a termination for medical reason (TFMR), on learning their baby isn’t developing as expected or with a serious genetic condition, through our specialist TFMR therapy group.
Â
You could also fund parents in a specific geographical area of the United Kingdom.
The difference you can make
Grants to Petals are more than just financial support; they are investments in the mental health and futures of the hundreds of people every day who experience the trauma of baby loss. With you we can help parents:
Â
Â
-
Secure validation and understand the trauma they have been through
-
Find ways to cope with their loss and grief
-
Navigate short-term challenges such as organising a funeral or returning to work
-
Avoid unhealthy coping mechanisms such as alcohol abuse
-
Stay together in a healthy relationship
-
Avoid developing serious anxiety, depression or PTSD – all common following baby loss
-
Overcome common barriers to counselling such as language or time
-
Build the strength to continue their journey to becoming parents
“I was not the kind of person who would seek external help previously but I needed to be able to show truly how broken I was, without the fear of scaring and upsetting the people I loved most. Navigating the funeral, post-mortem results (inconclusive) and battling the guilt of longing for another baby were made bearable by the support of Petals.”
Kirsty, whose daughter Savannah was stillborn three days before her due date.
Reporting
Petals counselling is grounded in data that tracks the journey of each parent. We use CORE-OM, a widely used self-reporting measure at the beginning, during and on completion of therapy. We also gather our own data, including detailed feedback and case studies. Our reports are tailored to the specific interests and objectives of your trust or foundation.

Thank you!
The team at Petals would like to say thank you to all of our current funders for their ongoing support and the significant impact they are having on the mental health of parents who have lost their babies.
