Sarah Mackay, Counsellor
I am an experienced counsellor, having qualified in 2012, and have worked for Petals since 2018. I am an Accredited Member of the BACP. I am also qualified as a counselling supervisor.
As a Petals counsellor working with bereaved parents, I recognise that managing your grief following baby loss can be extremely difficult and isolating. Left unresolved, the feelings can be overwhelming. You may feel helpless and unsure of how to navigate these extremely distressing feelings on your own.
Counselling can validate your feelings caused by the trauma and grief you have suffered.
I can offer you a supportive, non-judgemental, safe space where, through counselling, I can help you make sense of your experiences and enable you to unravel your trauma so that the grieving process can begin.
As we go through the sessions, you will be able to process your grief and build coping strategies and resilience and, ultimately, feel less alone on your journey.
By the end of the counselling, I have witnessed that many parents are able to find their “new normal” and ultimately find ways to live with their grief.
Before I trained as a counsellor, I was a midwife for 13 years, working in both hospital and community settings. I feel that my background in midwifery helps me have a deep understanding and empathy for your lived experience of the emotional trauma and grief that people can experience before, during, and after pregnancy and childbirth.
I believe that once you understand your feelings, healing can then begin.
