Nicola Clark, Petals Counsellor
Losing a baby is the most painful and heartbreaking experience a parent can go through. I understand that beginning counselling may feel daunting, particularly at a time when you may be struggling to make sense of your thoughts and feelings and the impact of your loss. My aim is to offer you a safe and compassionate space where your experience can be heard and explored at your own pace, recognising that grief is deeply personal and unique to each individual.
“The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same nor would you want to.”– Elizabeth Kubler-Ross
This quote demonstrates that life will never be the same again, and why would it be. To suffer such an unimaginable loss the reality is that it will change who we are and will impact all areas of our lives. We do not move on from grief in time we learn to live alongside it.
During our time together, I will help you to explore and process the feelings and pain that come with your loss. Together we will develop coping strategies, identify additional support and explore what you need during different stages of your grief. We will work with maintaining the ongoing connection and bond with your baby and find ways to integrate them within your life.
My counselling journey began as a volunteer with Cruse Bereavement Support, which led me on to qualify as a Person-Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I am an Accredited Member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and my work, values and practice adhere to their ethical framework.
My specialist training and experience include pregnancy and baby loss, infertility, women’s gynaecological health issues, menopause, bereavement and grief.
It is a privilege to work with Petals and to be part of a team committed to supporting parents when they need it most. My values align closely with Petals approach, ensuring that compassion and the individual needs of each client remain at the centre of my work.
