Petals, the specialist baby loss counselling service is proud to partner with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, to provide specialist online counselling for parents following pregnancy or baby loss.

Experiencing the loss of a baby is devastating. Leaving hospital can feel overwhelming as you try to make sense of what has happened while coping with grief, shock, trauma, anxiety and uncertainty about the future.

Petals offers a safe, compassionate space where you can feel heard, understood and supported as you begin to navigate your grief. Our specialist counsellors provide emotional and mental health support tailored to the unique experiences of pregnancy and baby loss.

Who can access this service?
This counselling service is available to parents who are under the care of the Bereavement Midwifery Team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, who have experienced a loss within the last year. Referrals must be made directly by the hospital’s bereavement midwifery team.

The service is available following:

  • Early miscarriage, including ectopic and molar pregnancy

  • Recurrent miscarriage

  • Second trimester miscarriage from 16 weeks

  • Termination of pregnancy for medical reasons at any stage of pregnancy

  • Diagnosis of a fetal abnormality with a poor prognosis at any stage of pregnancy

  • Stillbirth

  • Neonatal loss

Petals can also provide support during a subsequent pregnancy for parents experiencing significant anxiety following a previous loss, often referred to as pregnancy after loss, where they have previously received counselling through Petals.

This service is funded by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals and is designed to ensure parents continue to receive compassionate emotional support after leaving hospital.

No one should have to face pregnancy or baby loss alone. Through this partnership, specialist counselling is available to help parents process their grief, care for their mental wellbeing and find support at every stage of their journey.

If you fit the above criteria, please ask the professional referring you to complete the form below.

If your loss does not come under any of the above, please still complete our request for counselling form. A member of the Petals Team will always respond to you and signpost you to other services that may be able to offer you support.
