Rachel Munro - Counsellor

Hello, my name is Rachel, and I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor and have an MSc in Therapeutic Counselling. I would describe myself as an integrative counsellor and believe that the therapeutic relationship is fundamental to developing a safe and containing space for individuals to begin to process their thoughts and feelings.

I started training as a counsellor in 2016, having had previous careers within the NHS in numerous psychology departments, working primarily with adults with learning disabilities and later as a Secondary Mathematics Teacher. Additionally, I have experience volunteering for the Samaritans and Age Concern. During my counselling training, I worked with adults for a low-cost counselling agency in Kent, as well as a Bereavement Service in South London.

Loss is an area that I am personally very interested in, especially as it affects all of us in so many different ways.  It can be so sudden, shocking, and most importantly, unique to you.  I work to support people at times of immense loss, by listening to their experiences and validating their emotions in a compassionate way.

I consider it to be a privilege to journey with people at this time, as they begin to understand the range of different emotions that they may be experiencing and start to manage their grief. I hope that by listening and remaining non-judgemental, we can begin to work together to help develop resilience and self-growth. I am excited to work as a Petals Counsellor and offer support to people in this way.

In addition to this role, I also have a small private practice, as well as working online for a specialist counselling service for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism and a counselling service offering mental health support to people in the creative industries. I continue to work as a group facilitator for a local Bereavement Service.
